Maple Bay Recreation, Cowichan Valley Tourism, Vancouver Island, Canada

The attractive beachfront town of Maple Bay, positioned in a narrow inlet and surrounded by smooth, pebbled beaches, possesses a fine natural harbour that hosts boat activity all year long. Situated on Vancouver Island in the Cowichan Valley, Maple Bay is situated across from the biggest Gulf Island, Salt Spring Island.

Arts and Culture

Don’t overlook the Maple Bay Marina, in Bird’s Eye Cove at the extreme southern end of Maple Bay, which features a chandlery, restaurant and pub.

Day journeys in the area might include a visit to the nearby community of Genoa Bay, a collection of waterside properties along with a full service marina, art galleries as well as a superb restaurant. You can also travel ten minutes out of Maple Bay to Duncan, the City of Totems, and home of the Quw’utsun’ Cultural & Conference Centre. Close by Crofton offers ferry service to Vesuvius Bay on Saltspring Island where art galleries & craft galleries are plentiful.

The Cowichan is a beautiful area.

Outdoor Adventure

Diving, cycling, boating, water-skiing, swimming and fishing – there are lots of sea pursuits to take pleasure in here…The beach front in Maple Bay is a superb spot to go swimming and beachcomb. You can furthermore dive in the protected narrow inlet–the late Jacques Costeau considered it one of his favorite dive spots. To fish for salmon, set out directly into the Sansum Narrows just south of Maple Bay. Fantastic fishing locations are Arbutus Point and Octupus Point.

Quamichan Lake, 3 kilometres west of Maple Bay, also offers year-round fishing. Access to the well-liked lake is from Maple Bay Road

For breathtaking views, wander the trails in Maple Mountain Centennial Park. The recreation area presents a wide variety of trails that range from 70 to 140 minutes in length. For additional trekking, pay a visit to the 536-metre high Mount Tzouhalem (south of Maple Bay toward Genoa Bay) and take pleasure in wildflowers and lovely sights. 

Getting to Maple Bay
Maple Bay is located in the Cowichan Valley, only a 10-minute drive from Duncan.
• By Vehicle: Take the Island Highway and watch for the signs!
• By Boat: The Maple Bay Marina, located off Samsun Narrows, offers protected moorage.
